This ride marks Team GGA’s sixth year participating in the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer fundraiser supporting Albertans affected by cancer—both those who are battling the disease and those we’ve lost. This year’s event is scheduled for July 20 to 21, commencing at the Strathmore Stampede Grounds and taking riders 200 kilometres through the surrounding prairies.
Our team is 19 members strong with a goal of raising $100,000—if achieved, it will bring the total fundraised to almost $400,000 since 2018. We take immense pride in championing causes that resonate with our company values and giving back to our community. The commitment of our team leaders and passionate riders has guided Team GGA through rigorous training and promoted encouraging, supportive and synergistic energy that spans beyond the riders to our whole staff, clients and consultant teams.
The 19 riders share deep, personal connections with this cause. We want to share some stories of why they will be riding this year and what inspires them to join this cause.
Why Julia Rides with Team GGA:
Julia’s motivation for the Tour is deeply rooted in her family’s journey. Her aunt Vanessa bravely fought ovarian cancer, initially diagnosed in 2019 and later returning in metastasis in 2023, ultimately claiming her life in February 2024. This loss has left a significant void in Julia’s life and the lives of those closest to Vanessa. Julia shares, “I wish she could see how much we care about her and miss her.”
For Julia, the Tour Alberta for Cancer is not only a fundraiser but also an opportunity to honour her aunt’s memory and provide support to her mother and cousin, who have been deeply affected by this loss.
Why Dennell Rides:
Dennell and her daughter Kristin have joined Team GGA for the third year in a row. “Choosing to participate in The Tour Alberta is the most physical-mental and humbling bike ride a non-road bike rider could ever do,” says Dennell, “however the personal achievement at the end of 200 kilometres eases a bit of the pain of losing my Dad and Son-In-Law to cancer.”
Why Erin Rides with Team GGA:
Erin dedicates her tour in memory of her closest childhood friend, Kayla, who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in 2019. Kayla’s battle with this disease came on suddenly, but she put on a brave fight. “Losing her was tough. It left a hole in our lives that we’re still figuring out how to fill,” says Erin, “But Kayla’s spirit lives on—a reminder of how important it is to support each other through the hard stuff.”
Why Paul Rides:
This year, Paul rides in memory of his Uncle Hugh, who received his diagnosis of leukemia in 2023. “He was always the most upbeat, positive, heartwarming person and he kept this disposition through his entire fight.” Sadly, Hugh passed away shortly after Christmas 2023.
Paul hopes the money raised by Team GGA will help to end this fight, affecting one in two Canadians during their lifetime.
We are so grateful to our generous sponsors and donors who have helped make this possible. Team GGA would like to extend a big thank you to our generous Jersey Sponsors who include AME Consulting Group, Designcore, Embe Consulting, DBK Engineering, ELAN, PCL Construction, Aspen Properties, Centron, Ledcor, TRL & Associates, ROYOP, Custom Electric LTD., Remington Development, Remedy, Chandos, Smith + Andersen, UXBorough Living, Prairie Sky Royalty and Havenz Smart Communities.
