Westside Recreation Centre

The Westside Recreation Centre renovation is a comprehensive transformation designed to make one of southwest Calgary’s busiest community hubs more accessible, functional, and engaging. By introducing flexible multi-use spaces, modern finishes, and new amenities, the project enhances both the aesthetics and the overall recreation experience for visitors of all ages.

A new café will serve as a welcoming community hub, offering both take-out and dine-in options. Clean lines and vibrant design accents create a fresh, modern environment that encourages connection and relaxation, while serving both recreation centre members and the broader community.

The leisure rink is being reimagined as a dynamic and immersive space, with design inspiration drawn from the natural elements of ice, snow, and canyons. Murals, layered ceiling features, and strategic lighting transform the rink into a memorable experience, while a warming hut and seating area provide a central gathering point.

The renovation also includes a fitness expansion, offering more room for weight training, stretching, and light workouts. Mirrors, new flooring, and improved layout alleviate crowding and create a more user-friendly fitness environment.

Upgrades to the change rooms focus on combining luxury with functionality. The addition of 600 lockers, reconfigured showers and bathrooms, and refined finishes such as wood accents and warm tones create an inviting and practical atmosphere. A new elevator improves accessibility and circulation, while also supporting operational needs.

Other improvements include a relocated youth studio for better visibility and flow, expanded office space to support centre operations, and careful phasing to ensure the facility remains open and safe during construction. Together, these enhancements ensure the Westside Recreation Centre continues to serve as a vital destination for health, fitness, sport, and community connection in Calgary.
