The Edison

The Edison lobby renovation in Calgary's vibrant downtown is a transformative project that breathes new life into the former Pan-Canadian Office building while honouring its rich connection to the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The building's redesign is a thoughtful blend of past and present, integrating rail motifs and industrial design elements that reflect its storied history while positioning it for modern use.

The project has a newly reclad façade and a reimagined plaza that serves as a vibrant outdoor social space. The plaza's sun-filled orientation is perfect for casual and formal gatherings by offering an inviting environment for both tenants and visitors. The relocation of the Plus 15 network to the south side of the building enhances the lobby atrium— creating a larger, more open space that improves connectivity and tenant interaction across the first two floors. The design fosters a "boutique" office atmosphere and sets the Edison apart in Calgary's competitive downtown market.

Inside, the renovation extends to the building's fitness facilities, transforming a portion of the existing office space into a club-like amenity suite. This includes a modernized fitness centre with refined locker rooms that align with the building's vision for a co-share-friendly environment. The interiors strike a balance between industrial charm and contemporary sophistication, featuring exposed steel columns, Tyndall stone walls and refined materials like edge-lit glass panels and floating wood stair treads.

A collaborative approach with the client throughout the renovation process ensured that each design decision was carefully considered and aligned with the project's overall vision.
