The Kainai Administration Building is a significant new development designed to serve the growing needs of Kainai Nation governance. This state-of-the-art facility will house 13 departments, relocating from the current Administration Building in Stand Off to a space that supports both current needs and future expansion.
Developed in close collaboration with the Kainai Nation Administration and Elders, the building’s design is rooted in five guiding principles: cultural representation, inclusivity, prominence, service integration, and sustainability. These principles are evident throughout the facility, from the interior spaces that reference the Sundance Lodge to dedicated areas for language and cultural learning.
The building’s orientation and layout are carefully designed to connect with the natural surroundings, including landmarks like the Belly Buttes and Chief Mountain. Natural materials and a design inspired by the earth create a harmonious blend of architecture and environment. The landscaping further enhances this connection, offering outdoor gathering spaces that tie the building to the broader master plan for the Stand Off Reserve. This new Administration Building not only meets the immediate needs of the Kainai Nation but also symbolizes a deep respect for heritage and community, ensuring a vibrant future for generations to come.
