Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing – Technology Access Centre

The Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing – Technology Access Centre (CIM-TAC) brings bold ideas to life by partnering with industry on advanced manufacturing solutions. Located on the Red Deer Polytechnic campus, CIM-TAC is a cornerstone of central Alberta’s innovation community, specializing in product and process development through applied research and technical expertise.

As a dynamic innovation hub, CIM-TAC gives companies access to state-of-the-art prototyping and manufacturing facilities, supported by a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, staff, and students committed to transforming concepts into market-ready products. With an expansion increasing the facility from 15,000 to 25,000 square feet, CIM-TAC will greatly expand its capacity to drive innovation and regional growth. This investment is crucial to enhancing productivity and economic development, while creating more opportunities for applied research, training, and work-integrated learning at Red Deer Polytechnic.

Upon completion, the expanded centre will deliver work-integrated learning experiences to approximately 450 post-secondary students each year, along with workshops and training for an additional 2,000 students by 2030. More than 500 junior and senior high school students will also benefit through dual-credit programming. The enhanced CIM-TAC will further support diverse industries, including energy innovation, transportation, aviation, and agriculture, while expanding its focus on medical device development and healthcare innovation to improve outcomes for patients and providers alike.

With new classrooms, collaborative spaces, and advanced equipment, the expanded facility will strengthen Red Deer Polytechnic’s role as a leader in advanced manufacturing, applied research, and innovation.
