The design philosophy behind the Hyatt’s Thomsons Kitchen & Bar was to invigorate the former characterless space, transforming it into a destination restaurant for travelers and Calgarians alike. The room was renovated into a contemporary setting with warm tones of brown and blue. The moveable room divider is covered on both sides with forest imagery. The new chef’s table—which seats 20—faces the open-concept kitchen in a semi-circle so diners can watch the chefs preparing each plate of food. Large-scale photography, taken by Joanne Meeker, hangs throughout the interior showcasing Alberta’s western and ranching lifestyle with all shots at Diamond 7 Ranch (the restaurant’s local beef supplier).
